THE AUSTIN COUNTY FAIR COLT PROJECT
is veterinarian and adult-supervised program for a six-month project period.
It has been in existence since 1984. The main goals are:

To provide 4-H and FFA members an opportunity;
-
To set personal goals;
-
To show one's pride in himself or herself and his
or her horse;
-
To work together as a team with other project members;
-
To demonstrate good sportsmanship, self-discipline
and responsibility for his or her horse's care;
-
To learn and apply sound nutritional, hoof, health,
and record keeping practices;
-
To provide a continuing program for exercise, fitness,
and conditioning; and
-
To instill a knowledge of proper grooming and handling
of a horse to assure that each horse will reach its ultimate growth potential.
The project has four mandatory evaluations and clinics throughout
the project term. The project also offers five additional clinics various
subjects, designed to teach each young person all kinds of things about
horses.
Classes that will be offered at the 2000 Austin County
Fair will be:

Yearling fillies at halter (sale class)

Yearling geldings at halter (sale class)
-
Yearling fillies and geldings at halter (non-sale
class)
-
Two-year-old mares and geldings at halter
-
Showmanship at halter, ages 8-10 (age as of Jan.
1)
-
Showmanship at halter, ages 11-13
-
Showmanship at halter, ages 14-18
